Our History
Bornmann Manufacturing is a family owned and operated
business that has been serving the Philadelphia tri-state
area for over 65
years. In the 1940’s, William (Bill)
Bornmann Sr. worked as a welder in the Philadelphia Navy
Yard. He was asked to design an enclosure for the cast iron
radiators in the offices on the premises. It was then that
he created the Bornmann radiator cover. A few years later,
he took his craftsmanship and design to the 1300 block of
Buttonwood St and started Bornmann Manufacturing. There he
mastered his craft of making the most efficient and well
designed radiator cover. After an unfortunate fire
destroyed the building in 1962, the business was moved to
its current location of the 3700 block of Old York Rd in
North Philadelphia. At this location, the business excelled
in sheet metal and went beyond producing radiator covers to
manufacturing storage solutions for the banking industry.
Bornmann Manufacturing continued to expand from residential
radiator covers to commercial products such as school desks,
hand trucks, batch carts and filing cabinets.
Throughout the 1990’s, new styles and products were
engineered and produced. In the mid 1990’s, Bornmann’s
Louver Style radiator cover was developed, providing a
modern aesthetic while maintaining an affordable price. In
keeping with new styles of radiant heating, enclosures for
baseboard units were also designed along with PTAC units,
commercial and residential HV/AC units.
Bornmann Mfg. is now in its third generation and has been
the leading producer of custom made metal radiator
enclosures for the past 30
years. We continue to use the
same principles of combining honest work and small business
craftsmanship to produce the industry’s top quality steel
radiator covers at the most affordable price. Our products
have been used in many local business and venues such as
Veterans Stadium, Villanova University, Captain Meys Inn Bed
and Breakfast in Cape May, Congregation Rodeph Shalom, and
Longwood Gardens.
Today, Bornmann manufacturing continues to grow and serve
not only the Philadelphia area, but also Boston, New York,
New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Washington D.C. As a
family-owned and locally operated business, Bornmann
